Trust which runs York Hospital proposes name change

York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust want a new name to include the other major hospital they run at Scarborough

The trust which runs York Hospital is planning to change it's name.

Currently called 'York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust', it took over responsibility for hospitals in Scarborough and Bridlington, as well as number of other smaller hospitals, back in 2012.

The trust say the question of a name change has been raised by staff and members of the public in the years since then.

They add it's increasingly clear that the current name doesn't accurately describe what they are as an organisation.

As such, the Trust wants to change their name to:

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

They believe that the change will send a strong, inclusive message to all of our staff, help them move forward as a single organisation, and better represent the communities they serve, now and in the future.

Changing the name will not impact on the services provide, but before making any decision they want to know what our patients, staff, trust members and local people think about the proposed change.

Views will be used to inform a final recommendation for our Council of Governors and Board of Directors.
