A mum from York wants to change the law for those who suffer a stillbirth.

Louise Prashad's twins - Mia and Leo - were born sleeping in 2016 - but because they didn't take a breath, it meant no statutory bereavement awards could be granted.

The stillbirth also led to Louise needing a liver transplant.

Louise has now set up a petition calling for change:

Apologising for the “failings in care”, a spokesperson for the York trust said:

“We would like to reiterate our sincere apologies to Mrs Prashad. We truly regret that failings in the care provided during her pregnancy resulted in the stillbirth of her twins in April 2016.

Louise hopes to change the current “outdated” law, and said:

“I am asking Parliament to consider the fact that, but for the negligent act of a third party, the parents of a stillborn baby bringing a claim would have been parents.

"A life has been taken and they have been bereaved of that right. Therefore, the statutory bereavement award should be available.”
