A York man has been telling us about how he narrowly escaped falling bombs in Ukraine as he tried to get to families caught up in the fighting.

Ed Matthews is now back in Poland following his aid mission.

He's already done several trips to the Polish border to volunteer but says this was the first time he'd travelled to where some of the heaviest fighting has been taking place.

He says he didn't tell his family exactly where he was going because he didn't want them to worry.

"We were in a petrol station and we noticed that everyone was looking really nervous and like they were going to duck for cover. A few minuets later we received a text message to our phone alerting us to an air strike. That really hit home, that it could have been us."
