Foodbanks in North Yorkshire say they're ready to help parents who might struggle to feed their family this holiday. With schools broken up many will need to provide extra meals for their children.

John McGall is from the I am reusable food store in York and says he's expecting a big rise in demand "We get asked daily, I could spend all day answering messages for people in need across York and people further afield. It has got steadily worse and in the last few weeks we've had a lot more people coming down to access us."

He also tells us although demand is increasing they are also seeing a drop in donations.

The foodbank takes surplus stock from supermarkets which is nearing the end of it's best before date but John explains as more people buy reduced stock it means they don't have as much to give out "I call it yellow sticker syndrome, where you have families now who are going to the supermarket at the end of the evening and getting all the yellow stickers and freezing all this food so they actually have something in but that has an effect on the foodbanks."
