York’s first character trail is underway with the arrival of 21 Snooks in the city.

Organised by Make It York with charity partner St Leonard’s Hospice, the Snooks will be hiding amongst the historic cobbled streets and secret gardens of York for residents and visitors to find between March and April.

Each Snook will unveil a mystery letter that will form a password to unlock secret prizes on the Visit York website.

The Snooks have been designed by Yorkshire artist Sian Ellis and each sculpture has been sponsored by local businesses, with some being joint sponsored, and paired with artists across the UK to decorate their individual Snooks.

Sarah Loftus, Managing Director at Make It York, said: “We’re so pleased to finally be able to reveal the Snook! A brand-new character to 2024, there will be 25 of them to find next year in a trail throughout York. It’s great to see how much excitement there is around this trail, and we can’t wait to see how our artists will decorate these 6ft Snooks and make each one unique and a true celebration of Yorkshire literature.”
