More than a hundred people turned out in York last night for an event to show solidarity with Ukraine.

There was speeches and singing outside the Minster to mark the country's Independence Day as well as six months since the start of the war.

Oxsanna went along with her host family after moving to York exactly four months ago and says "York feels like a second home to me, my second family are here...it is a very emotional night. The people of York are very kind hearted."

The event was organised by York Central MP Rachael Maskell who said: "I think our City really does open it's heart to people around the world and especially at a time of crisis we pull together. Our City is forever generous to others, others in need in York but others in need from far afield as well."
