York City takeover confirmed, mother and son duo set to take charge
For the second time in 12 months. York City has new owners
York City have confirmed the club has been sold to 394 Sports Ltd, following the transfer of shares from outgoing chairman Glen Henderson.
It comes less than 12 months after he took over the National League side, and follows a breakdown in relations with fans, including minority shareholders the York City Supporters Trust.
The new ownership group is led by The Uggla family, with mother and son duo Julie-Anne and Matthew assuming the roles of Co-Chair of York City Football Club pending FA approval.
“It’s amazing to get it done. It has been a pretty quick process and we need to hit the ground running because things are getting underway and we need to catch up with other teams who have had all summer to prepare,” Matthew said on completing the takeover.
“We can really take this club as far as we want to take it, I think the sky really is the limit, there’s not really a ceiling on this club. It’s just a case of putting the right structures and plans in place to really go for it.”
The Supporters Trust added: "Since the completion of the scrutiny process, we have been particularly impressed with both Julie-Ann and Matt’s continued desire to seek partnership and collaboration with the Trust and its Members".
