York City have confirmed new manager David Webb has left hospital after battling Covid and a lung infection, and is recovering at home.

In a statement, the club said assistant manager Michael Morton would be in charge for the FA Trophy game against Blyth Spartans on Saturday (December 17).

Webb is hoping to take charge for the first time against Gateshead on Boxing Day admitting it was "very frustrating" not to be with the team personally.

He added: “I am making good progress with my recovery, and I'm very much looking forward to my first home game in front of our fantastic supporters.”

York City said: "Webb has remained in constant communication with Morton and his coaching team via zoom meetings and phone calls to provide input on the team, training, and matches as well as keeping in contact with staff throughout the club on all footballing matters."

It's come after the York City Supporters Trust confirmed chairman Glen Henderson was willing to sell his 51% share in the club.

The Trust is now looking at a number of takeover options, including 100% fan ownership, or a consortium.
