York City football club announce first summer signing of 2021/2022
Kurt Willoughby signs for the Minstermen
York City Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of forward Kurt Willoughby.
The 23-year-old links up with the Minstermen again after a prolific loan period with the club during the 2019/20 season – also gaining interest from Football League clubs in that time.
Steve Watson has kept a keen eye on the England ‘C’ international ever since returning to his parent club and has made contact to sign the forward on multiple occasions throughout his tenure.
Willoughby finally makes the move over to North Yorkshire upon the conclusion of his contract with AFC Fylde, making him the club’s first summer signing ahead of the 2021/22 season.
Upon joining the club, Willoughby said: “I’m buzzing to finally get it done and be here, be in the new stadium and having a look around the place, it’s great to be back.
“I only came here for a month but straight away I felt loved and appreciated and that shows on the pitch.
“When you speak to the gaffer, he is keen on promotion and so am I – I want to win things and obviously being a striker I want to score as many goals as I can so I have targets I want to reach by certain points in the season. Hopefully I reach them, we do well as a team and reach our goals.”
Willoughby joins the eleven players currently contracted to the club, meanwhile negotiations over a new contract for Michael Woods continues.
