York City host AFC Fylde tonight (16th February) in their first match at the new LNER Community Stadium.

York haven't played a game since their trip to Kidderminster Harriers on the 5th of January, because of postponements caused by Covid outbreaks and weather conditions.

Speaking ahead of the game, boss Steve Watson told Greatest Hits Radio York: "It's a huge step forward in the history of York (playing at the new ground).

"I've been lucky enough to meet a lot of good friends and York City fans since I've been here, and they're all ready excited and will embrace the new stadium when they get chance to.

"We've not really talked about the new ground with the players; the focus has been on the game with AFC Fylde.

"When you've not played for six weeks your focus has to be on the next game. It's a brand new pitch which will suit two good footballing sides.

"The players will be absolutely thrilled to be in and around the new dressing room environment. For most of the games this season and the end of last season we were getting changed in the bar without any showers.

"It'll be a fantastic environment for the boys, but all of that will mean nothing if we don't perform on the pitch".

Josh King and Akil Wright are unlikely to be available after sustaining injuries. However, Owen Gamble and Harry Bunn are back and could feature tonight.

Kick off is at 7pm.
