York is hosting its first Women's Rugby league World Cup match tonight.

It's a double header at the LNER Community Stadium with New Zealand taking on France followed by Australia versus Cook Islands.

York’s LNER Community Stadium is hosting eight women’s games, more women’s games than any other host city or town in the tournament.

Meanwhile a civic reception has been held by The Rt Hon Lord Mayor of York who welcomed Australia, New Zealand, France and Cook Islands Women’s Rugby League World Cup teams to the city at The Principal, York. The four teams are staying in York for the duration of this year’s tournament.
