Whitby toilet block allowed to become holiday rental
Plans were approved by North Yorkshire Council despite concerns with a lack of parking and rubbish disposal

A toilet block in Whitby will be converted into a holiday let despite objections from local residents.
The conversion of the property on 21 Clarence Place was approved by North Yorkshire Council last Thursday (10 August).
The Council approved the building for holiday accommodation only, saying that its limited facilities mean it "would not be adequate for residential use."
Concerns had been raised about a lack of parking and waste storage space.
The proposal was approved without parking facilities, and the Highway Authority raised no objections saying that there was sufficient public parking nearby.
Issues with rubbish collection led to more complaints, with the Whitby Civic Society fearing that the "rubbish generated will inevitably be placed outside."
Planning officers had also previously refused an application to convert the property due to concerns with rubbish disposal.
The applicant, however, said they would remove rubbish between lettings, but the Council have said no one would be able to occupy the building until an "appropriate scheme for rubbish disposal and collection had been devised."
