Emergency services who have been searching for a missing man in his 70s from Askrigg have found a body.

Investigators who had been looking for the man, who was known by the name Howard, sadly discovered the body in the early hours of Saturday morning (June 1st).

Mountain rescue volunteers had been involved in the search, which had concentrated on the Askrigg area of the dale, with the body found near Mill Gill.

The man was from the North Yorkshire village of Askrigg

Formal identification is yet to take place for the body, but North Yorkshire Police believe the body to be that of the missing Howard.

The victim's family has been informed of the discovery, with the force extending their thoughts to the family and friends of the man.

Investigations remain ongoing, though officers do not believe there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death.

The force also thanked those who shared their appeal for information and witnesses as it helped in their enquiries.
