Police are appealing for witnesses and information about two incidents of criminal damage to a war memorial in a York park.

The damage was caused on two occasions in Rowntree Park, on the afternoon of Tuesday 9 and Tuesday 16 November 2021. Words were scratched over, and signs were etched onto a plaque.

A police investigation is underway, and officers are asking any witnesses, or anyone with relevant CCTV footage, to get in touch.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "It's beyond belief that anyone would be callous and cruel enough to damage a war memorial. The fact there have been two incidents makes it even more shocking. Please, if you have any information that could identify those responsible, get in touch with us right away."

"Please contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask for PC Daniel Foxton, or email daniel.foxton@northyorkshire.police.uk."
