North Yorkshire police say they have arrested a wanted person, who has convictions for serious sexual assault and robbery.

Jason Whiteoak was recognised by plain clothes police officers who were on duty in York.

They followed and approached Whiteoak before making the arrest at around 11.20am yesterday (6 May).

It follows public appeals for information about the 52-year-old, who lives in Selby but has spent time in other areas including Cambridge and the south coast while at large.

Whiteoak has been returned to prison to serve the full jail sentence plus extra time for absconding.
