40-49 year olds in York to be offered vaccine appointments "within days"
The age group could start getting invites by the end of next week
People aged 40-49 in York and North Yorkshire could soon be offered a coronavirus vaccine.
Nimbuscare, who are running the site at Askham Bar, have told health leaders they're almost ready to start offering jabs to people in the next cohort.
Professor Mike Holmes, who's from the site, said vaccination teams are not ready to start vaccinating people in cohort 10 just yet.
But they are hoping to offer out appointments "within days".
He added that people aged 18 to 30 will probably be invited for their jabs in May and June.
He told City of York Council’s outbreak board: “We’ll not be inviting cohort 10 of people aged 40 to 49 until probably the back end of next week, the 15th of April.
“Therefore we will not get to cohort 12 people aged 18 to 30 with no underlying health conditions for some time after that, possibly well into May and possibly June."
It's come just a day after the Joint Committee on Vaccines and Immunisation said people under 30 should be offered alternatives to the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.
The health secretary Matt Hancock has said the government is being "extremely cautious" after evidence linked the jab to rare blood clots in younger people.
