An urgent appeal has been launched for families who can take in Ukrainian refugees - as a York charity tell us they are getting new requests "everyday".

More than 350 people have already moved to the City since the war started almost a year ago.

The City of Sanctuary say they're getting requests "everyday" and need more sponsors to come forward.

Rebecca Russell, from the charity, says the numbers wanting to escape is rising all the time. She said: "I think a lot of people were waiting and seeing, and some of them just sent out some of their family - mainly women and children.

"Now what we are finding, is people are coming to us and asking 'i really want my aunt to come over, or my grandparents to come over'.

"A lot of people were just not sure at the beginning about how long this would go on for and if they would be safe where they are. It is very mixed over in Ukraine. Some areas are under bombardment, others are not. But, you never know day to day just when the next attack one is going to happen."

The Government has recently agreed to increase payments for sponsors. The charity hopes it will encourage more people to offer Ukranian families a place in their home.
