Two teenagers from Doncaster have been arrested after shops in Northallerton were damaged by fires.

Police said there was also an attempt to set a town hall banner on fire in the early hours of Wednesday morning (November 30).

The teenagers, a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, were taken into custody in the Applegarth area and arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, burglary and arson.

The boy was also arrested on suspicion of vehicle interference and theft from a vehicle after a car was found damaged on Bullamoor Road.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it attended two fires outside shops in Northallerton just after midnight on November 30.

The service said it believed the fires had been started deliberately, and police are appealing for any witnesses.
