Two men have been jailed for a burglary at a petrol station near York.

It happened at the Jet garage in Haxby during the early hours of Wednesday - when they broke into the garage and stole a large quantity of cigarettes.

34 year-old Constantin Manolache and 23 year-old Victor Marian Brazdis, both of Diana Street in Scunthorpe - were sentenced to 24 and 12 weeks respectively.

They were arrested following a search involving a police dog and a police helicopter.

In a statement, North Yorkshire Police said: "Local residents are praised for supporting the investigation and providing key information which led to the quick arrests and conviction of the suspects."
