Youth team coach Tim Ryan will take charge of York City after the club dramatically sacked John Askey as manager this week.

Ryan will be in the technical area for City's game against Wealdstone, their first game in over a year without Aksey in charge.

The club claims Askey told them he wanted to leave before he was sacked this week, with the side 12th in the National League North.

In his short time at York, he guided the Minstermen back to the National League and took them to the FA Trophy semi-final.

Fans reacted with shock to the news, while the club expected to name a permanent manager at the end of November.

An official announcement on Tim Ryan's appointment is expected tomorrow.
