Thirsk teacher and bartender becomes youngest woman to the row Atlantic solo
Jasmine Harrison has arrived in Antigua.
Jasmine Harrison has officially become the youngest woman to row the Atlantic solo.
The 21 year old arrived in Antigua today (20th February) at the end of her 3,000 mile journey from the Canary Islands.
She set off in mid-December, and across her journey faced 20 foot waves, drank 10 litres of water a day and row 1.5 million oar strokes.
She also capsized twice and had a near miss with a drilling ship.
Her boat is just 7 metres in length and weighs just 250kg. A day's rowing ranged from 40-60 miles.
Speaking to us before she set off at the end of last year, Jasmine said: "It would mean a lot to do it as the youngest, but it's not my main priority. I'm doing this because I want to.
"It is a selling point to say that you're the youngest, but it seems that everyone else is a lot more bothered about that fact than I am".
The route itself was from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Nelsons Dockyard (Antigua) in the Caribbean. The team, called 'Rudderly Mad' is raising money for ShelterBox.
Footage of her arrival in Antigua was caught today on theAtlantic Campaigns' Facebook page.
