A teenager who died after he was hit by a car while walking along the A64 in North Yorkshire has been named as George Sawyer.

The 18-year-old from Farnley Tyas, near Huddersfield, was crossing the road at around 01:20am on Monday (27 March), when he was involved in a collision with a BMW.

The driver of the car, a man in his 40s, is helping police with their investigation.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who may have seen George, or the black BMW, to come forward.

Detectives also want to see any dashcam footage.

The major route was closed in both directions between Redhill Field Lane at Bilbrough Top and the A1237 Copmanthorpe roundabout for most of the day.
