Jasmine Harrison, a swimmer form North Yorkshire, is closer to the finish point with 81 miles to go
Last updated 27th Sep 2022
Jasmine Harrison, a swimmer form North Yorkshire, has given a real time update on her journey to become the first female to swim the length of the UK.
The entire distance should be 900 miles and Jasmine is closer to the finish point.
In a recent video Jasmine posted to Facebook, she said: “Hopefully 8 more tides and I’m there, I can wait.”
In the video Jasmine is at Kinlochbervie in Scotland – the last shelter point in Scotland before she goes around Cape Wrath.
She is currently organising the next plan of action with her team.
The team now has two crew members – Stuart 1 and Stuart 2.
Rough swimming conditions
Conditions have been rough in the water which is why Jasmine has been taking shelter. Jasmine says she is “dodging storms.”
Jasmine plans to set off again tomorrow night (27th September) as there will be a gap in the weather where she gets another 4-5 tides. This way she can get as far as she can before sheltering again.
More bad weather is expected on the following Friday/Saturday.
Jasmine said she could potentially get 40 miles done in a day but it’s still all a bit unknown.
Sometime from Sunday to Monday, Jasmine expects to arrive in John o' Groats, Scotland.
Public support
The public have been very helpful and Jasmine is very appreciative.
Jasmine said that a local fisherman has been bringing her lobsters and fish, and another member of the public had helped her and the crew with laundry.
Jasmine said: “Tomorrow I have a group of an entire school coming to visit which will be really cool, we’ve got a full school of 33 kids coming onboard.
That’ll be interesting but brilliant because that’s what this is all about.”
Aside from excitement, Jasmine says that she is getting more scared of being in the water. She had previously seen a big whale which had terrified her.
“We need to get to the finish, we’re so close, I’ve got 81 miles to go. It’s just getting more dangerous because Cape Wrath is a notorious part of it.
Jasmine plans to do a live video once she arrives at the finish point.
