A pub in Sherburn in Elmet has announced it won't be serving anyone between the ages of 18-25 because of concerns about coronavirus.

Yesterday, Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty confirmed Covid-19 rates were rising highest among younger people.

In a post on Facebook, the pub says "this is not where we want to be" but feels it "simply cannot take the risk".

"This is not where we want to be. We would rather have a safe environment than a place which is teetering on the risk of closure."- The Oddfellows Arms.

Some people in the comments have accused the pub of discrimination, with one woman questioning why the rules are needed if the pub has Covid secure measures in place.

But landlady Margaret Holmes says other pubs have introduced similar measures, and she can't risk the businesses closing.

The pub says it'll keep customers updated and has thanked customers for understanding.
