Selby Christmas Market has been cancelled for the second year in a row.

A Met Office yellow weather warning for wind has been issued on Saturday.

Last year's event was cancelled because of Covid.

In a statement, the Council said: "Unfortunately we had to make the difficult decision to cancel the Christmas Market on Saturday due to the Severe weather warning that has been issued. The decision was not taken lightly but the safety of our visitors, traders and members of staff is of the upmost importance.

"The Christmas Tree and Lights will be turned on as scheduled at 4pm by the Mayor of Selby, Cllr Michael Dyson. We are hoping for better weather for the final Farmers & Craft Market this year on Saturday 18 December, 9am to 2pm, where there will be a fantastic selection of Christmas gifts and produce available."
