Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue is launching a fundraising appeal for new vehicles so they can keep carrying out life saving missions.

The team need to raise around £125,000 for two new Land Rovers and say they really need an upgrade because their current vehicles are more than 15 years-old.

Jon Bateman is an incident controller and said: "We're just about to launch a new fundraising campaign to replace our main Land Rover rescue vehicles. They've served us very well and they're definitely showing their age. We need to make sure our vehicles are reliable and safe to use.

"We need to make sure our vehicles are reliable, they're not costing a lot of money in maintenance and also that they're safe. The Land Rovers are quite old vehicles and in terms of people driving them and the safety on the road, we want to make sure we're in the latest and safest vehicles.

"There's a whole load of things we need to add to that in terms of the equipment, fitting them out to carry out what we need to do and in order to reach those offroad places that we need to. We need things like radios and blue lights for emergency response. It does add up quite dramatically when you start converting a vehicle in that way."
