Flood warnings have been issued along the River Ouse in York due to rising river levels as a consequence of heavy rain linked to Storm Bella.

As of 7.58am this morning (Monday 28 December), the level of the River Ouse at York Viking Recorder and St George's Field and Queen's Staith is 3.5m and rising. It's thought the peak, which is forecast at 3.7m, will occur early this afternoon.

All required flood gates, as well as the Railway Walk flood gate, have been closed and the Foss Barrier is in Operation.

York Central MP Rachel Maskell tweeted yesterday evening, saying the city has been "let down" and that she has written to the Floods Minister.

While the prediction is not as high as first thought, the York Central MP is still calling for action and says she will be visiting the riverside today.

There is also risk of flooding at the River Ouse at Naburn Lock. The current level of the Ouse at Naburn is 2.8m and the Environment Agency say they are closely monitoring the situation.

Amber flood warnings have been put in place at the Lower River Derwent, Lower River Nidd catchment, Tidal River Ouse from Naburn Lock to Selby, Upper River Ouse and Tidal River Wharfe.
