The Environment Agency is urging people in York to check regularly for flooding updates, as Storm Christoph continues to hit North Yorkshire.

Their Area Flood Risk Manager for Yorkshire, Adrian Gill, told Greatest Hits Radio York: "The rain is falling on already saturated ground, so we expect rivers to respond and that to unfortunately to cause significant disruption across the region.

"To those in the most at-risk areas of flooding, think about what really matters, what will you do if you have to leave home, what important things to take upstairs and what important things to take with you. Simple things like that can help you to prepare if the worst thing happens.

"We've unfortunately seen a lot of flooding in recent years, especially in Yorkshire. Sadly for many of the communities that have been flooded before, they are at an increased risk. I fully understand why people are feeling anxious at this uncertain time.

"All we can say to anyone who has been affected in the past is that we are out and about, we are clearing screens, we are checking defences, we're working with partners and our incident rooms are open. We will continue to update people using our flood warning service".

York Rescue Boat say they're on standby locally and nationally to help anyone affected.

The crew have specialist equipment in place in case of any callouts.
