One of York's top public health officials says social isolation has become an ever bigger problem during the pandemic.

Fiona Philips who is the Assistant Director says many have lost their confidence after shielding for so long.

She explains people who were previously told they were clinically vulnerable may not be in that category anymore. She says "While I can understand it's quite difficult, it's about treating Covid like you would any other infectious disease."

Charities, including Age UK North Yorkshire have also been telling us they are trying to reach out people who have become too frightened to leave their homes. Volunteers are encouraging everyone who might feel isolated to reach out for help.
