A property in North Yorkshire has been issued with a closure notice following multiple reports of persistent anti-social behaviour.

The closure order is the result of a joint operation between the council’s environmental protection and housing enforcement teams, alongside emergency services. It follows sustained concerns raised by residents about disorder and nuisance activity at the address.

An application for a closure order is typically considered a last resort, used only when other interventions or mediation efforts have failed. The aim is to provide relief to the local community from ongoing disruption or distress caused by occupants or visitors to a particular property.

Cllr Richard Foster, North Yorkshire Council’s Executive Member for Managing Our Environment, said:

“This is an example of teamwork in action. Officers from two of our departments have worked closely together on this case for some time and, alongside our colleagues in the emergency services, have secured a successful outcome.

Hard-working people have a right to expect to live in a peaceful and pleasant environment, and sadly that was not the case here.”

The council has confirmed that while the affected resident must now seek alternative accommodation, its housing options team has offered support and guidance in accordance with the authority’s legal responsibilities.

Cllr Robert Windass, the elected member for Boroughbridge and Claro, also welcomed the outcome:

“I am pleased that officers listened to residents and treated this case with the seriousness it deserved.

I hope that this decision will serve as a warning to anyone else who thinks they can get away with such behaviour.”

Acting Sergeant Pierre Olesqui of North Yorkshire Police added:

“We have had a large number of reports of anti-social behaviour at this location, and it is very pleasing that the work carried out by the council and other agencies has resulted in a closure order.

This is clearly a very positive action for the neighbours and those living in the surrounding area.”
