The NHS trust that runs York hospital has issued a fresh warning over long waits in A&E.

A combination of the Bank holiday weekend and the knock on impact of industrial action is causing the issues.

York and Scarborough Trust NHS Teaching trust says it's experiencing "extreme and continuous pressure".

They're asking patients to only attend in an life-threatening situation- or with a serious injury.

In a statement they add: “We urge people to help us by using alternatives such as NHS 111 if they are unsure whether to go to the emergency department. This will ensure that when people need help, they are guided to best possible care and treatment for their needs. NHS 111 is available by calling 111, free on landlines and mobiles, or by going online to 111.nhs.uk.'
