Police have closed an investigation into an alleged assault of three children in Selby last week.

The force said the "circumstances of this incident are not as they were initially reported."

Officers had issued an appeal for witnesses after reports of a gang of teenagers who had allegedly attacked three children, aged seven, eight and nine - in Flaxley Road on 13 April.

In a statement, North Yorkshire Police said: "Yesterday police released an appeal in relation to an incident that occurred on Flaxley road in Selby last Wednesday (13 April 2022).

"We are now able to confirm that the circumstances of this incident are not as they were initially reported and the investigation is now closed.

"We would like to reassure the public that we take all reports of crime seriously and would also like to thank any members of the public that assisted with our enquires."
