Police appeal for witnesses after a fatal A19 collision in North Yorkshire

Police are appealing for witnesses and any dashcam footage following a fatal collision on the A19 in North Yorkshire.

Officers received a report of a two-vehicle collision near Birdforth, north of Easingwold, at about 1.15pm on Tuesday 11 June 2024.

The collision involved a blue Skoda Enyaq and a red Vauxhall Corsa.

The driver of the Corsa, a woman in her 30s, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family is being supported by specially trained officers.

The driver of the Skoda, a woman in her 40s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

The road was closed while the scene was examined and cleared. It reopened at about 7pm last night.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, saw either of the vehicles involved prior to the collision, or has relevant dashcam footage, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police.
