PICTURES - Princess Anne's visit to York
The Royal was in the city as members of the 2nd Signal Regiment exercised their Freedom of the City
Soldiers have been marching through the streets of York.
Members of the 2nd Signal Regiment exercised their Freedom of the City on Thursday (19 May, 2022).
Princess Anne attended the parade - during a visit described as "a unique occasion" by Buckingham Palace.
It saw the Princess Royal, as the Royal Signals Colonel-in-Chief, take the salute in front of soldiers.

The Freedom of the City parade started at Duncombe Place near York Minster shortly before midday.
Princess Anne also took the opportunity to inspect the soldiers in her role as Royal Signals Colonel-in-Chief.
The Princess Royal also spoke to the soldiers who had marched through York city centre.
The Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Chris Cullwick was alongside her, and made a speech about the regiment’s long association with the city.
The National Anthem was played, the princess took the salute, then inspected the troops.
Across the city, lines of people stood across both sides of Duncombe Place to watch the spectacle.
The regiment -alongside the band - then went on to parade through York.
Princess Anne also took time to speak to those watching.
