Outreach service for the homeless back in York
Kitchen for Everyone say demand has increased.
A group supporting the homeless and foodbanks in York says their twice-weekly outreach service is back.
Kitchen for Everyone says: "It's been a busy start back to service and as the weather turns our supplies are greatly needed.
"If you are able to help in anyway please think about buying something from our Amazon wish-list.
"As ever food, toiletries, dog food and warm clothing are really useful alongside pack-able waterproof coats and pack-able sleeping bags. These are all on our list but you can also drop off donations at any of our standard drop off points".
The outreach service takes place on Monday and Saturday evenings.
Mark Bewick is one of the team leaders at Kitchen for Everyone: "It involves us walking around the city centre with vital supplies for people we come across who may need sleeping bags, hot drinks and something to eat.
"Anything that we can provide with the remote trolley that we bring around with us, along with toiletries.
"There is a bigger demand for warm clothing, waterproofs and sleeping bags now that the weather is getting colder. There are a lot of people living on the streets in York who don't have any kind of shelter, so those are the kind of services that we're really finding people in need for at the moment.
"Unfortunately there are people finding themselves vulnerable and on the streets, so the service we put together is for anyone - homeless or vulnerable. There does seem to be a growing demand.
"We never ask anyone what their situation is or how they came into that situation; we want to treat everyone equally. We do find it's a range of ages, and there's no one single profile of person who is struggling.
"We're just trying to accommodate anyone who needs that service. We also provide foodbanks with fresh food and vegetables, so any donations at the Amazon wish list or our drop-off points would be amazing".
