North Yorkshire woman "honoured" to compete at British Transplant Games
Louise Prashad had a liver transplant in 2016 and is competing this weekend
The 45th British Transplant Games (BTG) is taking place in Coventry.
The event highlights the life-changing benefits of transplants and raises awareness of the ongoing need for organ donation.
Louise Prashad from Easingwold is taking part in track and field events this weekend. She received a new liver in 2016 following a rare pregnancy related condition: "Every single transplant competitor, wouldn't be there without the kindness of the gift of life. It's so important people understand, saying that they want to be a donor and their families having that message communicated to them can make such a huge difference."
"My donor was a 52 year old woman called Sarah and she had a brain aneurism while she was out horse riding and unfortunately left behind a beautiful family and it was only two years ago that I got in contact with her daughter it's quite emotional because I feel like I've got a whole new family."
"Every time I compete in the transplant games I do it for her, I do it for her family, all I want to do in life now is make them proud and live everyday for her. because she can't be here anymore."
The Games also encourages transplant patients to come together, regain their fitness, and share their experiences.
Around 1,000 athletes plus family, friends, and live donors from across the UK have travelled to Coventry, taking part in over 20 sporting events in various venues across the city.
Currently across the UK around 7,000 people, including 200 children, are waiting for an organ transplant.
