Anyone in North Yorkshire struggling with alcohol addiction is being encouraged to reach out for support.

North Yorkshire Horizons is a free service that helps people with either drink or drug problems.

Carole's says she was an alcoholic for most her life - but after speaking out - she's managed to cut right back. "I've been an alcoholic for probably most of my life. I had an epiphany one day when I decided I did like myself, I'd had enough, there's only so many times your husband can pick you up off the floor, there's only so many times you can have personal accidents."

"Telling my friends and my family I felt relief that the elephant was actually out in the room and I find that now down the line, my mental health is so much better."

"I feel proud of myself, I can look forward to tomorrow, I can't look back because that's history and I can't do anything about that but now going ahead I can see things so much better."

"My mind is crystal clear I can do crosswords, I can write poetry, mentally, I find the benefits of stopping alcohol has been absolutely wonderful, physically I do feel better in myself, because I'm obviously not pulling myself around with a hangover."

"My relationship with my daughter now is fantastic, whenever I go and see her and I have my alcohol free cider or my alcohol gin and tonic, she always tells me how proud she is of me."
