North Yorkshire Mayor meets with the Chancellor
David Skaith says it's amazing to represent the area
North Yorkshire's Mayor's been meeting with the Chancellor - with housing, transport and skills all on the agenda.
Labour's David Skaith says it's fantastic to be a champion for our area.
Earlier this week he was at Downing Street with Keir Starmer and says it proves the Government's committed to devolution: "They want us coming with those bold plans, it's not us going there with our problems and issues, it's actually we know what our region needs, we know each region is different that's why having Mayors specifically in each area is going to be vital for the success of that area."
"York and North Yorkshire is a beautiful region but unfortunately it's a very expensive place to live so we need to create the next generation workforce that can afford to live there by building the homes, by creating the transport because it's very rural and vast so being able to move round is difficult and creating the skills that our workforce are going to need."
"It's about having someone around that top table for the first time who can really speak on our behalf, that's going to be the thing that makes our region stand out and by unique and it's not us competing with our regions, it's just about what we can do really well and we're going to drive on with this."
