Hygiene banks across North Yorkshire are appealing for any unwanted Christmas presents.

Volunteers say basics like shampoo, deodrants and soaps are all desperately needed by families struggling during the cost of living crisis.

Vicky Hardwick is the project co ordinator and says demand has soared over the last few months: "There’s a lot of mental health issues going on at the moment. I’ve had more calls from our community partners that we already help. The individuals are coming to them and they are in trouble and just need a little bit of help.

You can donate any unwanted items in the yellow bin set up around the city: "Please just put them in there because some people don’t get anything for Christmas, so it might be something that we can take a little bit of sparkle into their homes."

Vicky says any donations will be welcome as they predict a difficult time ahead: "Please donate, toothbrushes, washing liquid, detergent products, shampoo, anything, please donate."
