A man has been left with serious head injuries after an alleged attack in Thirsk Market Place.

North Yorkshire Police received reports that a 32-year-old man had been assaulted the back of the White Horse Café at around 10pm on Saturday (16 October). Initial police enquiries suggest that it followed an incident in The Royal pub that had spilled onto the street.

The victim remains in hospital in a critical condition.

A 21-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent, has been released on bail.

Officers believe a number of people were in the area and witnessed the assault, or incidents surrounding it, and have asked for those people to come forward with any information if they have if they haven’t already spoken to police.

North Yorkshire Police is asking anyone with any information to email CIDnorthallerton@northyorkshire.police.uk or call 101 quoting reference number 12210223112.
