Man's body pulled from River Ouse in York

Emergency services were called to the water near to Lendal Bridge in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, 16 November)

A body's been pulled from the River Ouse in York.

North Yorkshire Police, Yorkshire Ambulance and fire crews were called to reports of a man entering the water near Lendal Bridge early this morning (Tuesday, 16 November).

Despite several attempts by both the public and emergency services to rescue him, his body was recovered a short while later.

The full statement from North Yorkshire Police reads:

'Shortly after 2.30am this morning (16 November 2021) police received reports that a man had entered the River Ouse off Lendal Bridge.

'Police attended with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and the York Rescue Boat with several attempts made by both the public and emergency services to rescue the man.

'Unfortunately these rescue attempts were unsuccessful and the Underwater Search Unit later recovered a body from the water.

'If you have any information about this incident and have not already spoken to the police, please call 101 quoting ref: 12210242537.'
