Leeds East Airport say they’re assisting the Air Accidents Investigation Bureau after a light aircraft crashed on Thursday afternoon.

It was carrying two people at the time it took off, with both taken to hospital following the incident which saw the plane flip onto its roof.

Bosses at the airport say it’s now open again to all aviation.

In a statement at the time of the incident, bosses at Leeds East Airport said: "At around 5.10pm on Thursday, a single light aircraft carrying two people was involved in an incident during take-off procedure at Leeds East Airport.

"Our airport emergency crew was swiftly supported by regional emergency services, including air ambulance. Both occupants of the light aircraft were taken to hospital. We are assisting a team from the Air Accidents Investigation Bureau.

"Leeds East Airport is currently closed to all aviation, until the damaged aircraft is removed from the scene."
