River levels are rising across parts of North Yorkshire as heavy rain continues to fall.
An amber weather warning is in place until tomorrow (Thursday, 21 January) for many areas, with Storm Christoph bringing gales and even snowfall to some parts of the UK.

Latest flooding updates

A number of roads are closed in York due to the rising water levels. Some will be closed from tomorrow.

Advice from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue to not drive into floodwater.

1.28pm: Roads around the Yorkshire Dales are now being affected by the heavy rain.
The A684 - North Yorkshire, Appersett - is now impassable - affecting traffic between Hawes and Garsdale Head.

1pm: River levels on the Ouse set to peak in the early hours of Friday (22 January) but there are concerns already over the rising water levels:
12.45pm: More than 15,000 sand bags have been deployed across North Yorkshire as the county is on stand by for flooding caused by heavy rain from Storm Christoph.
Sandbag barriers have also gone up at Clementhorpe, Tower Gardens and Tower Street in York.
With further flood pumps and defences expected for the Fordlands Road and A19 area in Fulford.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said:
“We’re expecting surface and river water flooding to affect parts of Yorkshire today and on Thursday, which could cause damage to buildings in some communities.
“Heavy rain combined with saturated ground and snow melt could cause flooding and high river levels across Yorkshire.
“Areas likely to be impacted are the Pennine catchments of the Upper River Aire and Calder today Wednesday, and over the next couple of days, the River Ouse, the lower River Don and the lower River Aire.
“Environment Agency teams are out on the ground checking and operating flood defences and clearing trash screens.
“We urge people to keep away from swollen rivers and not to drive through flood water – it is often deeper than it looks and just 30cm of flowing water is enough to float your car.
“People should check their flood risk, sign up for free flood warnings and keep up to date with the latest situation at Gov.uk or by following @EnvAgencyYNE on Twitter for the latest flood updates.”

The Environment Agency has placed Flood Warnings on the following areas in North Yorkshire:
- River Nidd at Low Laithe
- River Nidd at Knaresborough Caravan Pars and Goldsborough Mill Farm
- River Nidd at Hunsingore
- River Ure at Roecliffe Caravan Park
- River Ure at Milby Island
- River Swale at How village and by Skipton Bridge
- River Seven at Marton
- River Seven at Normanby
- River Derwent at Old Malton
- River Derwant at Buttercrambe Mill
- River Ouse at York - St George's Field and Queen's Staith
- River Ouse at Naburn Lock
- River Esk from Biggswath to Ruswarp
There are also over 20 flood alerts in place.
