North Yorkshire Police investigating a sexual assault on a woman in York are asking any witnesses to come forward.

Police say it happened in Lawrence Street in the early hours of Sunday 20 June, outside a pizza restaurant.

It's believed a man struck up a conversation with the woman, before another man joined them and they walked along a path next to Lawrence Street Church.

They then sexually assaulted her, but she managed to run off and find a group of people who walked her home.

Detectives say a number of cars were driving down Lawrence Street at the time, and may have seen the men who were wearing jeans and dark tops.

One was also wearing a brown fleece.

They also say dashcam footage could help track the two men down.

Police also want to speak to the group who walked the woman home.

Anyone who can assist the investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 and pass information for incident number 12210143780. Or email Georgia.Ladly@northyorkshire.police.uk
