Plans for the Great British Railways have been postoned. York was one of six areas' shortlisted in the running to be its headquarters.

It's claimed that bringing the HQ to York would add around £110 million to the local economy and create 1,600 new jobs.

But the Transport Secretary Anne Marie Trevelyan has announced the Government has put back the Bill containing the plans.

Only last week, there were concerns the scheme would be scrapped which prompted City of York Council leader Keith Aspden and York Central MP Rachael Maskell to urge ministers to go ahead with it.
