York Stadium Leisure Complex opened its doors to the public today, with visitors able to attend the state of the art gym, leisure centre and library.

The one of a kind, multi-faceted community facility has an 8,500 seater stadium.

It will now become the official home ground for York City Football Club and York City Knights Rugby League Club. It has three conference suites, club offices, dedicated changing rooms and four stands. It's anticipated the first match to be played at the LNER Community Stadium will be York City Football Club in early January.

The site also has an NHS outpatient clinic, a retail area and an adjacent Cineworld.

Councillor Keith Aspden, Leader of City of York Council, said: "There is no doubt that the new stadium and wider complex will provide excellent facilities for sports fans and local residents alike. The completion of this huge project will provide a timely and very welcome boost to the city."

Councillor Nigel Ayre, Executive Member for Finance and Performance, has been overlooking the project for the last few years. He said: "This is a real game changer for all levels of sport in the city. The facilities on site cater for everyone with a new leisure centre, pool, library and NHS all in one convenient location."
