The Environment Agency says water levels are likely to remain high for some days to come in Malton and Norton.

In an update this morning, Ryedale District Council said: "The flood water situation in Malton and Norton remains fragile and challenging.

"The Environment Agency issued a Flood Warning for the River Derwent in Norton on the evening of Friday 22nd January.

"During the evening, Environment Agency teams worked with North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service to set up pumps at the end of Wallgates Lane, as well as manoeuvring sandbags by boat to alleviate flood water from the river.

"As the river is expected to remain high for some days, the pumps will remain in place and operational until river levels have receded sufficiently.

"The situation is being monitored closely by the Environment Agency and operational teams are in attendance to keep the situation under review.
