Emergency services are dealing with an incident on Redeness Street and James Street in York city centre.

In a tweet North Yorkshire Police Control Room is urging people to take alternative routes or follow diversions.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue say they're at the scene with police because of a partial crane collapse at the junction of Redeness Street and Layerthorpe.

The service say: "Recovery crane on route to support the broken boom which is hung in a precarious position".

UPDATE: "The recovery crane has now arrived and it, along with our aerial ladder platform, will be used to make the broken crane safe."
