Double gun salute for Queen's Jubilee
The Queen will be honoured with a double Royal Gun Salute in York today
HM The Queen will be honoured with a double Royal Gun Salute today, firstly to mark the Platinum Jubilee of her coronation and secondly to mark her official birthday. It will be a 42-round salute as opposed to the usual 21 shots. It is taking place at midday at the Museum Gardens in York.
The Band of the Yorkshire Regiment will also be marching through the City arriving in front of the Museum in time for the salute. The 4 Regiment Royal Artillery who are based near Thirsk will be firing the salute using three of their 105mm Light Guns.
Meanwhile, a series of beacons will be lit across North Yorkshire tonight as part of national celebrations to mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee.
They include Library Square in York, Knaresborough Castle and Cayton near Scarborough.
