Crowds of people have been seen singing and dancing on a street corner in York city centre in a video which has gone viral online.

It was apparently filmed shortly after 10pm on Saturday night, after the city's bars and restaurants shut their doors to comply with the new closing time as part of measures to tackle the spread of coronavirus.

Dozens of people were seen on Church Street, at the junction with Swinegate, loudly singing 'Mr Brightside', the hit song by The Killers, with very little social distancing in evidence.

At one point, a police van arrives, prompting boos from the crowd.

The video attracted hundreds of comments, with many people criticising the revellers.
